The Metropolitan Police Department will activate a new red light camera in Cleveland Park Friday, mailing $75 tickets to violators.
The camera is positioned to catch drivers traveling south on Connecticut Avenue N.W. at its intersection with Porter Street N.W. It takes photos of vehicles running red lights, and the police analyze photos and mail citations, according to MPD’s website.
MPD considers “calls for police service, crash data, speed feasibility studies and community-based recommendations when selecting locations for the devices,” it told WTOP.
For a complete list of red light cameras in D.C., see MPD’s website.

To be clear, the photo is not of the camera mentioned in the article, though it was at Connecticut and Porter, in front of the 7-Eleven. It’s an anticrime camera that’s no longer there (and neither is the 7-Eleven).
