The Cereal Bowl, the cereal-focused restaurant that opened earlier this year in Cleveland Park, has closed, the company’s president said.
“It’ll probably reopen soon with a new owner,” Kenneth Rader, president of Cereal Bowl Holdings, franchiser of The Cereal Bowl, said Wednesday. “That’s all I can tell you now.”
The restaurant’s doors at its location next to the Uptown Theater on Connecticut Avenue Northwest were locked Tuesday during business hours, the lights were off and no one answered the phone Tuesday or Wednesday.
The Cereal Bowl opened in March in a space that Starbucks Coffee abandoned in June 2009. The restaurant works on a franchise model and has two locations excluding the Washington, D.C., one, according to its website.
Multiple reviews have mocked the cereal restaurant concept. Wonkabout called it “the stupidest concept ever,” while the Washington City Paper’s Young & Hungry blog declared, “I don’t think there are enough drunks jonsing for a secondary sugar rush to make this place work.”
