Chipotle Mexican Grill is seeking to open a restaurant in Cleveland Park and has applied for a zoning exception to do so.
The space at 3420 Connecticut Ave. is in an area that prohibits fast food restaurants, so Chipotle would need an exception from the Board of Zoning Adjustment to establish its restaurant there, Leila Afzal, an advisory neighborhood commissioner, said in a message on the Cleveland Park Listserv.
The Cereal Bowl vacated the space near the Uptown Theater in November when it closed. It had been a Starbucks Coffee store prior to that.
Chipotle has locations nearby in Tenleytown and Woodley Park. It is a fast casual restaurant specializing in burritos and tacos.
The Cleveland Park/Woodley Park advisory neighborhood commission must review the BZA application, and will be able to recommend for or against its approval. It recommended such an exception for Noodles & Company’s planned Woodley Park restaurant Tuesday.

Chipotle is better than an empty storefront, but I would really prefer another decent coffee shop besides Firehook.
I agree Nick. Love firehook, but their coffee isn’t so special. How about a dunkin’ donuts?
