The Cleveland Park/Woodley Park advisory neighborhood commission will have to fill a vacancy this October when one of its members resigns.
Trudy Reeves, commissioner for the 3C06 single-member district, will move to Brooklyn, New York, in October, she said in an email on the Cleveland Park Listserv. Her term extends to December 2012.
“My chief regret is that I will not be here to see the development of the Giant project,” she said in her email. Her district includes the north block of the proposed Wisconsin Avenue Giant project, which currently houses the closed Giant Pharmacy and SunTrust Bank, among other businesses.
Prospective commissioners must live in the single-member district and file a petition with the Board of Elections and Ethics with at least 25 signatures from voters within the district. If only one person files the petition, he or she will be appointed commissioner. If multiple people file, there will be a special election for the seat.
“During the next two years, the Giant project will dominate your service on the ANC,” Reeves said. “The rewards and experience gained make it all worthwhile.”
Candidates can file petitions after BOEE declares the vacancy.
