A group of advisory neighborhood commissioners will host a meeting March 9 to hear residents’ concerns about the Cleveland Park Giant Food construction project.
Commissioners are hosting the meeting to gather suggestions for the project’s construction management agreement, which the city will negotiate with Giant, commissioner Nancy MacWood said in a message on the Cleveland Park Listserv Monday.
The meeting will take place 7-8 p.m. on March 9 in the community room of the Second District Police Station at 3320 Idaho Ave. N.W. It is intended for constituents of MacWood, Victor Silveira, Trudy Reeves and Leila Afzal, whose districts are closest to the project site.
The District Department of Transportation is responsible for the negotiations for the Cathedral Commons project, which will replace the Giant at 3336 Wisconsin Ave. N.W. with a larger grocery store and mixed-use development.
The agency will seek input from the ANC, Karina Ricks, associate director of DDOT, said at the Cleveland Park ANC’s January meeting. Some aspects of the agreement are pre-determined, such as construction hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and truck routes.
Noise issues, trash issues and communication are among the terms that can be negotiated, MacWood said.
Giant has not set a date to start the project, though it is in the “pre-development stage” and a contractor will start boring this month, Reeves told All Life is Local. The grocery chain has faced more than a decade of community opposition in its effort to replace the store.
There is also a pre-meeting on same day, same location at 6 – 6:45PM. I suppose that will make the actual decisions.
