An unidentified armed robber stole money from Cleveland Park’s Medium Rare early Saturday morning, less than two weeks after the restaurant opened its doors.
The robber entered Medium Rare through the rear door at about 12:25 a.m. Saturday while an employee was counting money to close the restaurant, Metropolitan Police Department lieutenant Victor Braschnewitz said in an email on the Second District community discussion group.
He pointed a gun at the two employees and demanded money. The employees gave the man money and he left through the front door, at which point an employee contacted police. Police did not immediately find the man.
Medium Rare caught footage of the robber on its surveillance camera, it said on Twitter. The restaurant also reported that no one was injured. MPD did not identify the restaurant in its report, but Medium Rare confirmed its identity via Twitter.
Police identify the robber as a male of an unknown race. He is 27 to 35 years old, 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-11-inches and 175 to 190 lbs. He wore a black jacket and black pants and carried a pistol, possibly .38 caliber.
Medium Rare, which only serves steak, opened March 28.
